Martyn Rawson

Martyn Rawson

Julian Thomson

Julian Thomson

Theme:

Tradition and Innovation — The Ninth-Grade Curriculum in Waldorf Education

Introduction:

Who we are today is shaped by our personal histories and the cultural and natural histories surrounding us.

Waldorf education, based on Anthroposophy, has traditionally been influenced by European culture and thought. However, with globalization and increasing emphasis on multiculturalism and emerging technologies, Waldorf education worldwide has entered a phase of curriculum innovation and reform. This raises important questions: What should be preserved? What should change? How can we evolve while retaining core values? This module explores these contemporary challenges and opportunities.

Seminars:

Social Sciences and Modern History for Ninth Grade

Instructor: Dr. Martyn Rawson

Martyn’s "New History Curriculum" transcends traditional Eurocentric perspectives, incorporating inclusive and global viewpoints. The curriculum integrates cultural studies, sociology, politics, civics, economics, and art history into the history curriculum, transforming it into a broader social science. It provides practical guidance for ninth-grade teachers to develop dynamic historical narratives that bring the past to life, fostering a profound understanding of history beyond mere facts.

Reading Steiner's Texts and Applying Them in Teaching Practices

Instructor: Dr. Martyn Rawson

Martyn introduces an interpretive approach to Steiner's texts, encouraging teachers to analyze and discuss these writings deeply and connect them to contemporary educational goals.

Earth Science for Ninth Grade

Instructor: Julian Thomson

Focusing on causal and logical thinking, the ninth-grade Earth Sciences curriculum explores geological processes from observing falling rocks to understanding rock formation. This approach helps students grasp natural laws, reflect on processes, and experience the Earth’s systems and dynamics.

Incorporating Academic Research into School Education
